Introduction

Carl Rogers talks about the need for giving people a holding environment in which they can achieve a point of acceptance of themselves. This, suggests Rogers, is essential before a point of personal growth can be reached. One of the most essential aspects of this holding environment is an absence of judgement.

The Whole Health Handbook is designed as a tool to help people assess their own personal health and to raise awareness of behaviors and conditions which exist within us. It's not intended to judge or critique one's personal health, or to score or rate it.

It's broken into sections regarding different aspects of personal health, each of which are in turn broken down into issues of mind, body and spirit. I.e., if you're asked to assess what a certain type of activity or behavior means to you, you might be asked how it makes you feel, and what thoughts it brings up for you. You might also want to ask yourself about what it means inside your body. Does the behavior make you feel a certain way physically? Finally, what sort of impact does it have on you spiritually? Does it have any sort of broader and more extensive meaning for you in that aspect?
