How Does It All Work?
The Whole Health Handbook is broken down into several sections:
- The Initial Assessment is just a series of introductory thoughts to get you started thinking about your personal views about health. Take your time with this, and don't rush yourself through any answers or responses.
- The Personal Work sections are to do specific detail work on a given issue. They're designed to give you a chance to explore an issue which is prominent in your life in depth, broken into exercises designed to be done one day at a time over the period of a week or so (though you can take longer to do them if you want). Do only those Personal Work sections which you feel are relevant. You do not have to do all the Personal Work sections, nor do you have to do them in any specific order.
- The Focus Exercises are designed to provide an additional component to the Personal Work sections. The idea is to do one towards the end of each Personal Work section, applying the specific exercise to the issue addressed in the given section. It's best to vary the Focus Exercise you do from section to section.
- The Shadow Work sections are for dealing with some of the more serious and potentially traumatic work on issues which can be of major issue for us (such as suicide, post-traumatic stress, and recovery from sexual abuse). It's not recommended that anyone delve into these sections right away. They should be taken on after having done several of the Personal Work sections, and preferably with the availability of a trained professional to deal with issues that come up. Unlike the Personal Work sections, the Shadow Work sections are not structured into a specific time frame but are, instead, designed to be ongoing explorations which one does from time to time when it seems appropriate.
