Normally I use very slow-speed films for night photography (25 - 100 speed), and leave the shutter open for a long time (anywhere from 20 seconds to eight minutes, depending on circumstances). I decided this time to experiment with 800-speed film, just to get an idea of what it would be like. Generally speaking, I didn't like the results, but some of them were interesting. I took several pictures of the circle of fire at waterfire to see how they'd look. What you don't see in the shot is that right behind this scene is a new mall with lots of brash and bright lights-- those lights show up in the reflection on the water, though, and wash out a lot of the effect of the fire. These are all 5-10 second expsosures, with the f-stop at 22. |
