There are a lot of web pages on the internet, of varying quality. The purpose of this page is to give some suggestions and helpful advice to people interested in web design.
What I'm trying to focus on is the difference between what's adequate and what's excellent. There are lots of web authoring tools which can build very slick-looking pages relatively quickly, but are limited in their scope. With these tools, anybody can create a web page these days, so you want your web page to be one more out of so many which is basically adequate, or do you want something which is going to really grab people's attention? The other element I want to stress is that grabbing people's attention isn't the only thing. You can do that with a flashy background but that might completely detract from the text on the page. If you have extremely impressive images they might look great, but if they take 4 minutes to load, no one's ever going to see them. This page is not intended to teach anybody HTML. It makes occasional references to code, but it's assumed that you at least know something of what you're doing, otherwise the advice on these pages won't do you much good anyway. I do, however, have an introduction to HTML page which is good if you're a real beginner when it comes to web design. |
