Fireworks from Wilmington, VT how'd I do this?
All of the fireworks pictures were taken using traditional night photography techniques. I.e., a tripod was set up and pointed in the direction where I thought the fireworks would be, then I'd leave the shutter open for a period of time (usually 20 seconds or so, but I tried to vary it to get different effects). Most of what you see here was done with the f-stop at 2.8 (I used my trusty Olympus OM-PC). Often what you're seeing is not what we saw watching the fireworks. I.e., when several bursts appear in the shot, it's not because they all showed up at once, but instead because I left the shutter open long enough that more than one burst made it into the shot. The image on the left shows three different bursts, none of which showed up at the same time as the others.
