The Reticualr Formation
The reticular formation (or "little net") is a complex network of around 100 nuclei that run from the top of the brain stem to the bottom of the myencephalon.
Various nuclei in the reticular formation are involved in arousal, but also in many other basic functions, such as movement, muscle tone maintence, cardiac reflexes, circulation, and attention.
